This agreement was in fact made a very long time ago, near the dawn of time. (Two years ago, to be more precise, long before COVID-19 entered the general lexicon and face masks were a topic of political discussion.) $ 10.1 million for a mansion in Madison La Quinta’s celebrity infested club was Apple chef Tim Cook.
In March 2020, astute news pundits may recall, Cook and several other famous people were exposed to COVID at a private birthday party at La Quinta for his Madison Club neighbor, Lucian Grainge. Grainge was then hospitalized with viral complications.
Developed by Discovery Land Company, the guardian-kept Madison Club is best known for its expensive homes, its much-loved course designed by Tom Fazio, and for its many famous residents. Other Madison Club owners include Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, Cindy Crawford, Kourtney Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Nike founder Phil Knight and Scooter Braun.
Although the MLS ad service says Cook paid $ 10.1 million for his Madison Club estate, public records put the amount at “only” $ 9.1 million. Either way, he got a deal on the spot. The property had been listed at $ 11.5 million; with home values in the wilderness still skyrocketing, the 0.8 acre spread is now probably worth close to $ 12 million. But with a deemed net worth of $ 1.5 billion, Cook is unlikely to need any additional equity.
Covering 10,000 square feet, the sprawling home is vaguely Germanic in all its harsh, austere glory. Custom built by a developer and completed in late 2018, the place is essentially colorless, with just a few shades of brown and beige to balance the whites and grays that otherwise fill interiors. Still, there’s plenty of wall space for a colorful modern art collection, and the dazzling sunset views are certainly great. All the five bedrooms of the house have their own full bathroom and there are two more powder rooms on site.
And yes, the house is as loaded as you would expect from a property owned by a CEO of the world’s most valuable company. Other amenities include a lounge, executive office and bar with personalized pool table. There are also two kitchens, one gourmet and the other a ‘butler’ kitchen, each fitted with high-end stainless steel appliances. Automated glass pocket doors allow seamless indoor / outdoor living.
The backyard of the house faces due west, ideal for a Madison Club residence, as this view captures the beautiful Santa Rosa Mountains. Out the back, there’s an infinity pool with its own swim-up bar and Baja shelf for sunbathing in the water, as well as a patio with a fire pit and built-in barbecue center. The air-conditioned loggias are the ideal place for outdoor entertaining. And to socialize, all Madison Club residents head to a central clubhouse with fine dining and exclusive spa / gym facilities.
Cook, 60, has been CEO of Apple for more than a decade. Last month, he received a payment of $ 750 million from Apple, whose market capitalization now exceeds an unfathomable $ 2 trillion. His main residence remains located in Palo Alto, north of the Silicon Valley of the Bay Area.
Glenn Cassell of Hideaway Properties Corporation has handled both sides of the matter.
