Apple plans to launch new AirPods and AirPods Pro as early as next year, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
It’s a move that could help Apple continue to boost its Wearable, Home and Accessories business, which posted sales of $ 6.45 billion in the last quarter, up more than 16% from compared to the same quarter in 2019. The segment includes AirPods, Apple Watch, Apple TV and accessories like cases and chargers.
The new AirPods are expected to join the highly anticipated high-end on-ear headphones. The company has stopped including wired headphones with its new iPhones, which means more people could end up buying Apple’s wireless headphones instead.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The new regular AirPods would resemble the current AirPods Pro model, with a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips, but without noise cancellation. Apple intends to launch them in the first half of 2021, according to Bloomberg.
The report says Apple could root out the new AirPods Pro. It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live earlier this year. However, the new design proved difficult and the company can stick with a more classic design, according to the report.
