(Reuters) – Apple Inc (AAPL.O) is withdrawing from the south-west music and technology festival this month amid the coronavirus epidemic, a company spokesman said on Wednesday.

The US death toll from coronavirus infections rose to 11 Wednesday and California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a statewide emergency in the midst of the country’s largest epidemic.

Facebook Inc (FB.O) said earlier this week that he would not participate in the festival.

Event representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

South by Southwest music and technology festival in Austin, Texas, said last month that the event would go as planned despite “a handful” of cancellations linked to the virus.

The epidemic has disrupted other conferences and technology gatherings, including the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and Google (GOOGL.O) annual developer event, Google I / O. Companies have also changed their work and travel plans.

IBM (IBM.N) said on Wednesday that its “IBM Think 2020” developer conference will be an online event May 5-7.

The company said it had issued new travel restrictions until the end of March.
