Apple Store: “Be back”
As expected ahead of any Apple event, the company’s online store is down as we’ll see new products later on Tuesday.
A new Apple Watch and AirPods too?
Apple doesn’t usually just talk about the iPhone when it (physically or virtually) hosts its September events. We’ll probably see a new version of the Apple Watch as well. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the upgraded Apple Watch Series 7 will sport a new design, larger screens and a faster processor.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac reports that Apple may also introduce a new version of its AirPods. The last time Apple rolled out new AirPods was in 2019, according to the report.
Watch out for iPhone 13 scams
As the buzz mounts over the likely unveiling of the iPhone 13, the number of scams related to Apple’s event is also increasing. Research firm Kaspersky said it saw an increase in scams ahead of the event.
Scams often involve bogus offers such as buying the next iPhone before release or getting other deals on products like AirPods. People who sign up never get the device, and hackers get their hands on their personal information.
“Apple presentations have always been a popular lure for crooks to carry out malicious activity,” Tatyana Shcherbakova, security expert at Kaspersky, said in a statement. “For several years now, we have seen how fraudsters are using the buzz around the new version of the iPhone and starting to spread malicious features.”
Some of the tips Kaspersky offers to protect you: make sure messages are from trusted sources, don’t click links in suspicious emails, and be skeptical of offers that sound too good to be true.
Apple is likely to tackle the recent ruling in the Epic Game lawsuit filed against the iPhone maker. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on Friday ordered Apple to allow developers to use payment options beyond the App Store, which would bypass Apple’s 30% commission on most transactions applications.
Epic Games has said it is appealing the judge’s ruling dismissing Epic’s claims that Apple had a monopoly.
By mid-December, Apple must create a framework that would allow developers to manage payments outside of Apple’s App Store and iOS, said Gene Munster, managing partner of Loup Ventures.
But “it won’t be until next year that the developers will be able to perform pilot A / B tests,” Munster said on Twitter. “Apple will likely make other changes over the next 5 years, which collectively will result in an App Store that is a favorable asset from an investor’s perspective.”

“Repressed demand” for a new iPhone
Ahead of today’s event, Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives provided a summary of Apple’s position, noting that the company “remains in the middle of its strongest global product cycle in about a decade”.
The new line of iPhones, which is expected to be called iPhone 13, will be the second model to include 5G wireless connectivity. Apple appears to be ramping up production of new phones beyond that of the iPhone 12, Ives said. Its analysis suggests that Apple’s initial production of around 90 million units exceeds that of the initial iPhone 12 production by 80 million.
The reasoning ? “This 5G-focused product cycle will run through 2022 and should also benefit from a post-vaccine consumer reopening environment,” Ives said.
Beyond that, there is a “pent-up demand” for new iPhones among current customers, as around 250 million of the 975 million iPhones already sold have not been upgraded in over 3.5 years, he said. he declared.
The new wave of iPhones are expected to include “a mind-blowing 1 terabyte storage option,” double the highest storage capacity of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, according to Ives.
