Director Ang Lee is bringing a Bruce Lee biopic to the screen, and early project details have also landed.
It goes without saying, perhaps, that Bruce Lee is one of the most iconic figures in action movie history. From his confrontation with Chuck Norris at the Colosseum in Path of the Dragon at the hall of mirrors fight scene in Enter the dragonLee had a huge impact directing just five feature films, as well as prolific work as an action director and his role as Kato in The green hornet.
It’s no surprise, then, that his story has been brought to the screen many times before. The highest profile of them was that of Rob Cohen Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, in which Jason Scott Lee took on the role. Other films include George Nolfi Birth of the dragon and Raymond Yip Young Bruce Lee.
Now another version of his life is coming to the big screen, thanks to director Ang Lee.
Lee is no stranger to action movies, directing Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon in 2000, which not only won him an Oscar, but remains to this day the highest-grossing international film in the United States.
Ang Lee’s son Mason Lee will also play the title role in the film. Lee Jr has been training for three years to accurately recreate Bruce Lee’s martial art Jeet Kune Do on screen.
foxcatcher Writer Dan Futterman is currently working on the screenplay, based on previous drafts by Jean Castelli, Alex Law and Mabel Cheung, and Wells Tower. Bruce’s daughter, Shannon Lee, is among the producers.
