Android Circuit is here to remind you of some of the many things that happened around Android last week (and you can find the weekly summary of Apple news here).

The software secrets of your Galaxy S20

In the past, your computer came with a huge manual of everything that was hidden inside. Now you feel like your smartphone is full of secret features that you will never find until someone tells you about it. Fortunately, the Internet is very good in this area. Jason Cipriani has nine hidden features in the Galaxy S20, starting with better access to your notifications:

“The screens in the S20 series are only getting bigger, making it more difficult to use the phone with one hand. But instead of stretching your thumb to the top of the screen, there are a setting that allows you to swipe down anywhere on the home screen to easily view your notifications.

“Long press the home screen, then select Home screen settings, then enable Swipe down for the notification panel. Now when you want to view your quick settings or pending alerts, swipe down anywhere on the home screen. ”

The first details of the Galaxy Note 20 are there

Looking forward to summer, and it looks like Samsung will continue with the Note line of Arguer smartphones – there has been speculation that likes of the Galaxy S20 Ultra would negate the need for the note, but the purpose is different from the note won through … nothing more than the Samsung S-Pen digital pen that hides in the hardware. And with the code name of the note, it looks like the

“A prolific Samsung insider, Ice Universe, has revealed the first big news for the Galaxy Note 20 and it’s code name:” Project Canvas “. Plus, given what we know about the code names of Samsung, it means Note fans will enjoy it.

“While Ice Universe only gives the vague answer that there will be” new features in SPen “, Samsung has in recent years named its flagship products after its passionate projects while remaining on a theme based on art. example, the Galaxy Note 10 was codenamed ‘Da Vinci’ which was acclaimed for its all-purpose brilliance, it was an excellent versatile phone. The Galaxy S20 was named ‘Picasso’ because it was a painter revolutionary with an incredible use of color, the S20 represented Samsung And the canvas is a progression of paper and writing, it is for art. ”

Who has an idea for OnePlus?

OnePlus, more than any other manufacturer, maintains its community involvement at the center. The final program – Ideas – continues this process by asking users for feedback on hardware and software, and then presenting these ideas for discussion online.

“IDEAS was created so that you, our OnePlus users, can share your feedback on how to improve the OnePlus product experience for everyone. Unlike other existing feedback channels, this is a platform form where every OnePlus user can comment on an idea or show support by voting for!

“We see huge potential in IDEAS. As a brand new feedback platform, it can also be improved. As a global beta, we are currently open to software ideas, which we believe is an area perfect for everyone to dive. ”

Huawei Mate 30 Pro tested

Huawei’s latest flagship, the Mate 30 Pro, has a breathtaking design, a four-lens camera system and a cascading screen with curved edges. But one crucial element is missing. David Phelan reviews the handset, including this missing item. Google mobile services:

“On all other smartphones, this is a penultimate paragraph or addendum but here it is the main event. Huawei is not allowed to license Google Mobile Services (GMS) which include applications such as Google Maps, YouTube, Gmail and, most importantly, Google Play Boutique…

“I would say that while a return to full GMS available for purchase would be preferable, there is enough flexibility for what you can do that the lack of a full GMS shouldn’t be a problem to put people off. When Huawei Maps, designed in collaboration with TomTom, comes to the phone in the future, there will be even less need for GMS. ”

Is it enough to play a role of rupture? Not for everyone, as Phelan explains. Read the full review here on Forbes.

Critical security risk linked to Android rooting

A particularly dangerous vulnerability of certain Android devices, known for almost a year, has been corrected in the current security update from Google. Found in various chips from MediaTek, it was possible under certain circumstances. Davey Winder reports:

“The Android security update bulletin for March 2020 has arrived and contains Google’s confirmation of a privilege escalation vulnerability (CVE-2020-0069) which affects not only millions of Android devices, but which is also actively exploited by cybercriminals.

“… For everyone, it’s recommended that you apply the March 2020 Android security update as soon as possible, and any firmware patch from your device manufacturer. Just like all the usual tips for paying attention to the apps that you install, the permissions you grant them, and where you install them. ”

How many Android devices are unprotected?

Speaking of security in Android, how many devices don’t have the latest security updates? According to Which magazine in the UK, more than 2 in 5 Android handsets no longer receive security updates. Andrew Laughlin investigates:

According to Google data from May 2019, 42.1% of active Android users worldwide use version 6.0 or earlier: Marshmallow (2015), Lollipop (2014), KitKat (2013), Jellybean (2012), Ice Cream Sandwich (2011) and Gingerbread (2010).

According to the Android Security Bulletin, no security patch was released for the Android system in 2019 that targeted Android versions below 7.0 Nougat. This means that more than one billion phones and tablets can be active worldwide and no longer receive security updates.

More on which.

And finally…

Just before confirming the Nokia 5.3, it was spotted in the latest James Bond trailer for “No Time To Die”. The movie may have been postponed, but the handset is still coming soon. Marin Ordulj reports:

“The new replacement for the immortal 007 agent for Her Majesty the Queen, has advertised Nokia 5.3, and the first photos of the phone have just leaked. Photos reveal that Nokia 5.3 is the phone that previously leaked with the flash LED positioned “in the middle of the camera module and surrounded by four cameras. Nokia Mobile has again chosen the color Forrest Green, which makes the phone beautiful. Nokia 7.2 is also much better in Forrest Green color than Charcoal color. ”
