Android 10 has made its way to many phones around the world, and is now preinstalled on virtually all new devices. But the next version of Android – Android 11 – has just received its first developer preview.
Android 10 has offered us many cool features, but there are still many more we’d like to see. With that in mind, here is our wish list! Whether it’s features taken from popular Android skins or long-awaited tweaks, these are the new features in Android 11 that we want to see in the final version.
More battery modes
Google already offers Doze and a battery saving mode to help users extract more juice. There is no doubt that these modes have helped users get a little more stamina from their phone.
But the poor endurance of the Pixel 4 shows that even the battery saver is not enough in certain situations. So with that in mind, it would be great if Android 11 offers more battery modes, like an Samsung-style Ultra Power Saving mode.
Fortunately, this feature may be available on Pixel phones after hints have appeared online. Now, about bringing it to Android phones in general …
More screen capture options

Another option that we would like to see in Android 11 is partial support for screenshots. Realme UI Offers a pretty cool take on this (seen above), allowing you to press and hold three fingers on the screen to invoke a selection box. Just adjust the box to highlight what you would like to record and you have a partial screenshot – no need to visit a separate editing menu.
Google has already confirmed that support for scrolling screenshots is targeted for Android 11, but we would also add partial screenshot functionality to our wish list for Android 11 functionality.
Game mode
Samsung pioneered the game mode and associated tools, providing you with a dedicated gaming space and a few useful tools (for example, the ability to change the resolution and capture screens). Since then, we’ve seen this mode and some of these tools come on gaming phones and some Android skins in general.
It would be great if Google also brought a game mode to Android 11 or later, giving you the ability to seamlessly change the display resolution / frame rate, an option to automatically disable notifications, and a quick capture.
More privacy features
Oppo
Android 10 has provided revised privacy features, including revised permissions and a dedicated privacy section in the settings menu. We’d love to see Google go even further with Android 11.
The company could consider various measures, but we really like the protection of personal information of Oppo and Realme (see above). This essentially sends empty data to applications that request items such as contact lists, call logs, calendar entries, and access to messages. This can also be defined application by application, so that applications with legitimate use of this data can be whitelisted.

It wouldn’t hurt if Google added some more privacy-focused features to the fray, such as a BlackBerry-style Privacy Shade, or automatically sent photos to a file locker when taken with a fingerprint scanner physical or an alternative shutter key.
Google could also turn to Apple for more privacy features, such as generating a unique email address that forwards messages to your real address. In doing so, your real email address must be safe from data breaches and other harmful activities. Apple also has a system option that removes metadata when sending images via AirDrop – it would be great if Google implements this as an option for all downloads.
Office mode
Desktop mode is a feature that was previously launched in Android 10, but was hidden from users in the final version. This is another feature that we would like to add to our wish list on the features of Android 11, as Huawei and Samsung have been offering for several years.
For the uninitiated, a desktop mode allows you to have a PC-type user interface when your phone is connected to a large screen. When combined with a keyboard and mouse, you have a PC alternative for travel or office presentations.
Optimized load
Asus was among the first to introduce an optimized charging solution with its flagship Zenfone products in 2018. It essentially uses your past charging habits to adjust the charging rate. This practice ensures that your phone does not stay 100% for centuries, which results in slower battery degradation over time.

We have since seen that Apple and OnePlus also offer this solution, but we would like to see Google add it to Android itself. This way, other OEMs don’t have to do the prep work, and battery health at all levels should be improved. This is especially important because people hold their phones longer, which makes battery degradation more worrying.
An Android Beam replacement
AirDrop, one of the best things about Apple devices, is a seamless way to locally share files with other devices. Google had the aging Android Beam solution, but it has since killed that.
Previews of Android 10 showcased a so-called fast sharing / close sharing solution as a local file sharing option, using Bluetooth for the initial pairing process before switching to Wi-Fi for sharing. Unfortunately, the final version of Android 10 did not offer this feature, so I hope this will happen to Android 11.
What about Android 11 developer preview features?
The first preview from the developer of Android 11 contains several interesting features, but there is no guarantee that they will arrive at the final and stable version. Just look at how many features were missing when transitioning from Android 10 preview to stable version. However, with that in mind, here are some of the new features in Android 11 that we hope to see in the final version:
- Screen recording – Record what’s going on your screen, following in the footsteps of OEM skins.
- Dark mode planning – The Pixel drop feature allows you to switch the dark mode based on the sunrise / sunset, but we would like to see the ability to set custom timelines.
- Pin apps to share the menu – Lets you pin apps to the sharing menu, so you don’t have to keep scrolling through your favorite app.
- Conversations – All chat related notifications go to a “conversations” section in the notifications shade.
