The first Sony phone to get the update to Android 11 was the Xperia 1 II – its flagship for 2020 – in December.
However, the update has yet to be released for Xperia 1 II users in some regions such as the United States.
It was speculated that the company halted the deployment due to bugs that occurred after some users installed the update on their devices. More information here.
That said, Sony started sowing Android 11 on the original Xperia 5 and Xperia 1 yesterday, ahead of official plans for a February release.
Unfortunately, the smartphone vendor did not share a detailed changelog for the new software update.
So other than the usual Android 11 features and improvements, it’s unclear what Sony added, removed or fixed with this new software update.
However, according to information shared on Sony’s official website, updating to Android 11 will apparently fix the app not closing issue that apparently appeared after users installed Android 10.
The problem exists on the Xperia 1, Xperia 5, Xperia 10 Plus, Xperia 10, Xperia 1 II, Xperia 5 II and Xperia 10 II according to Sony’s website.
As a “solution”, the smartphone maker suggested users who are unable to close apps through the recent screen to go directly to the home screen rather than pressing the down button. back or use the back gesture.
Then users can open the recent screen and swipe up to close the running application (s). We have shared a screenshot of Sony’s solution / workaround below:
Unfortunately, we have not come across any reports of Sony Xperia users who have encountered an issue with apps not closing after updating to Android 10.
But since the company has created a support article dedicated to the issue, it is likely a known bug and will happily be fixed with the update to Android 11.
Since Android 11 has just started rolling out to users, we may have to wait a while before we get confirmation that we have fixed the app not closing issue on affected Sony Xperia smartphones.
In the meantime, stay tuned to our dedicated tracker to learn more about the status and availability of Android 11 for all eligible Sony smartphones.
