Andreas Pereira’s magnificent volley lit up Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Premier League new boys Brentford in front of Old Trafford’s biggest crowd since March 2020.
After finally being able to welcome 10,000 fans for last season’s home final against Fulham, around 30,000 of them attended the Bees visit thanks to the easing of restrictions on coronaviruses.

Those who made it to Wednesday’s preseason friendly witnessed one of Old Trafford’s great goals as Pereira hit a 25-meter rocket that passed under the bar in front of Stretford End.
The long-term future of the United academy graduate, who spent last season on loan at Lazio, is unclear but no one will forget his strike against Thomas Frank’s men.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “We could just distribute it [Goal of the Season], that Andreas hit was to die for, I think please touch it.
“Andreas has technique, what a success.”
It was a game of big goals, started by promising 19-year-old Anthony Elanga, producing an excellent volley on a cross by Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the 12th minute.
Brentford produced a moment of magic of his own eight minutes later when Shandon Baptiste unleashed a deflected volley from the edge of the box that entered the woodwork.
Pereira’s superb goal early in the second half was the squad’s choice but that didn’t prove the winner as substitute Bryan Mbeumo fell back well at home after the half-time introduction Diogo Dalot failed to intercept a ball on the line.
