Skilyr Hicks, a former “America’s Got Talent” contestant, was found dead Monday at a friend’s home in South Carolina, according to a report. She was 23 years old.
“She will live through her music,” Hicks’ mother Jodi told TMZ, which broke the news of the death.
It was not immediately clear how Hicks died. The mother told the store that her daughter suffered from drug addiction and mental health issues.
Hicks performed a song she wrote in Season 8 of the NBC Talent Show Contest in 2013 when she was just 14.
She reached the second round and then was knocked out before the show’s live rounds.
Hicks is survived by his mother and four siblings.
