Lauren Hutton recently opened up about confidence when it comes to ageism during an interview with popular beauty tabloid, Byrdie, published earlier on Friday.

Former American Gigolo, 78, discussed her positive views on the term ‘aging’ and said the word is rather ‘old fashioned’.

The talented star further explained that with fashion and beauty there is a constant “obsession with youth” but the industry has the power to “help change” the negativity when it comes to age.

The model and actress told Byrdie that “Whether it’s beauty or fashion, there’s an obsession with youth.”

“But if we’re lucky, we’ll all get old. I think it’s time to realize that anti-aging is an outdated term,’ The Gambler star added

Lauren explains that there was a lot of “research that shows our attitudes have so much to do with how we age” and that we shouldn’t stress and worry about any particular wrinkle or blemish.

Instead, the primary focus should be “to take care of our skin and ourselves, and the industry can help move that conversation forward for the future.”

Lauren also spoke about being the face of beauty brand, StriVectin, in the late 70s and what led her to collaborate with the company, while using its products.

“I liked what they wanted to do and the way they steered the conversation towards age positivity, instead of this ‘anti’-aging idea, which never made much sense to me,” she explained.

“I was really impressed that they were smart enough to talk to women of my generation,” the Malone actress added.

Lauren revealed that one StriVectin product she uses often is Wrinkle Recode Line Transformative Melting Serum, which retails for $89, according to the brand’s official website.

The star previously spoke about age positivity earlier in May for her cover story with Harper’s Bazaar.

Lauren admitted that she doesn’t spend a lot of time on skincare and then gave her thoughts on cosmetic surgery.

“When it comes to cosmetic procedures, there’s a really thin line to walk,” she said.

“There are people I find it hard to look at today. Their faces don’t look like the people I’ve known,” Lauren added to the fashion publication.

The star, who modeled in the industry for nearly six decades, moved to New York in the 1960s, where she modeled for luxury brands such as Dior and Chanel.

Before signing a contract with Revlon in 1973, when she was nearly 30, Lauren only made around $50 a week from other modeling jobs.

Lauren also told Harper’s Bazaar why she decided to sign a contract with the famous makeup brand.

“I was about to turn 30, and I knew I was about to expire, and I wanted to protect myself with a contract that would guarantee that I would continue to work for years.”

The model-turned-actress added, “So I got a deal with Revlon.” At the time, it was the biggest in modeling history.

She quickly became famous for her gap-toothed smile, which she had tried to conceal early in her long career.

In addition to his continued success with modeling, the star also tested the waters with acting and starred in films such as The Gambler (1974) and later appeared alongside Richard Gere in American Gigolo ( 1980).

Lauren is still focused on age positivity, coming to terms with working in the modeling industry in her 70s, and has starred in recent campaigns for companies such as H&M.
