New York Times film critic Lena Wilson called out actress Amandla Stenberg on social media.
Lena revealed that she received a direct message on her Instagram from Amandla about the review she did for the movie Bodies Bodies Bodies.
Amandla, who came out as gay in 2018, took offense to Lena’s copy that referenced cleavage, but the actress called her NYT review “awesome.”
Lena’s review referencing cleavage was one sentence, which read, “The only thing that really sets Bodies Bodies apart is its place in the A24 hype machine, where it doubles as a 95-minute commercial for cleavage and the latest single from Charli XCX.’

In 2018, Amandla told Wonderland Magazine: “I was so overwhelmed with this deep sense of relief when I realized I was gay. Not bi, not pan[sexual] but gay – with a romantic love for women. All of those things that felt so inwardly contrary to my true self were rectified as I unraveled a long web of denial and self-deprivation.
Lena, who is a lesbian, also tweeted: ‘Always weird when homophobia comes from inside the house but it’s something’, referring to the fact that they are both part of the LGBTQIA+ community. .
Lena pointed out that Amandla only seemed to focus on her and no other film critics.
Lena shared Amandla’s DM on her Twitter and TikTok.
In the DM, Amandla wrote: “Your review was awesome, maybe if you took your eyes off my boobs you could have watched the movie!”

The film critic then blocked the star on Instagram, as seen in the DM screenshot.
Lena also tweeted, “Do you think she has Instagram DM Alison Willmore, Justin Chang and Anthony Lane like this or,” adding the DM screenshot.
She also tweeted: “Always weird when homophobia comes from inside the house but that’s something.”

A24 is the distributor of the film.
She also took to TikTok and shared a video: “I haven’t been here in a while but I was just checking my Instagram DMs because a really lovely person informed me that Jennifer’s Body is playing 35mm at the Roxy this weekend. If you’re in New York, you absolutely have to go. There’s a disgusting amount of tickets left.
“I looked at my DM application and found this which I’ll let speak for itself a bit. For context, I reviewed Bodies Bodies Bodies for The New York Times and didn’t really didn’t like it and said so Ironically I praised the acting.
“I don’t want anything else to come out of this, I’m devastated to have received this message in the first place. I was a real big fan of her but I’m posting it because I don’t want this person who has more social power than me to think it’s fucking good to do something like that. And that’s all.’

Bodies Bodies Bodies is a horror comedy, directed by Halina Reijn.
Amandla stars alongside Maria Bakalova, Pete Davidson, Chase Sui Wonders, Lee Pace and Myha’la Herrold in the project.
After their exchange made headlines, Stenberg took to her Instagram Story to reflect on the “extreme” comment she’s received regarding her breast size since she was a teenager.

“I just thought I’d get out here real quick because I get a lot of comments on the internet for being a really naughty girl and sending a DM that I thought was hilarious,” Stenberg said of her conversation with Wilson.
“I am proud that a work in which I was involved has been described as such in such a renowned publication. It is a truly unique experience that I can live.
She added: ‘I thought as gay people we would both find that comment funny. I was also curious why Lena would say such a statement, but Lena decided to post it and say that I am homophobic for saying that. Wilson posted this on Twitter, writing, “Always weird when homophobia comes from inside the house.”
Concluding the conversation, the star noted, “I could literally wear a t-shirt and just because of the size of my breasts there will be some kind of sexualization or commentary on my chest.”
