Ally Sheedy says it’s been enlightening to watch her child’s trans journey.
And the 59-year-old movie star added that things couldn’t get any better with Beckett Lansbury, 27, whom she shares with her ex-husband, 60-year-old actor David Lansbury, who is the nephew of Angela Lansbury.
“I learned a lot,” the 1980s icon told People this week. “Beck isn’t hiding anything.
The St Elmo’s Fire star also said: ‘And I feel very comfortable talking to anyone whose child is just starting the transition process. Parents need to educate themselves.

The New York native says she feels for parents who are initially apprehensive when their child wants to make the transition.
“It’s natural to be afraid for your children no matter what,” she added.
“But in this case, Beck is really at a great place in his life. I give him the chance to run and just try to watch.
In fact, she said things are better than ever with Beckett working as a teacher.
“It’s a good phase right now,” the Breakfast Club actress said. ‘He is very independent. But I love when I can help him with something, whether it’s advice or he needs a new mattress!
The High Art star shared: “I want him to be able to do what he wants to do with his life and have the freedom to make his own choices and surround himself with a loving and supportive community. “

She also said, “So far he’s been able to do that.”
“It’s so empowering and beautiful to be able to stand with your kids through it all, to stay true and support them.”
Beckett told Parents magazine, “There’s so much in our society that tells every fiber of trans kids who they are isn’t right and isn’t true.”
Ally also talked about her new acting role.
Sheedy stars in Single Drunk Female as a single mother to her newly sober daughter, played by Sofia Black D’Elia.

Ally – born Alexandra Elizabeth Sheedy – made her film debut in Bad Boys in 1983.
But her biggest fame came in the 80s when she joined the acting group Brat Pack in The Breakfast Club films – which starred Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez and Anthony Michael Hall.
And she was also in St. Elmo’s Fire with Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Emilio Estevez, Mare Winningham, Judd Nelson and Andrew McCarthy.
She has also starred in WarGames and Short Circuit.
