All Polestar 6 LA concept build slots reserved one week after debut

Polestar has announced that construction slot reservations for its 6 LA concept have already sold out. The all-electric roadster won’t launch until 2026 and Polestar will limit production to just 500 units. Now, the reserved construction slots are not sales, but they do indicate some interest in the electric vehicle on offer.

All 500 build slots received a reservation within a week of the car’s production announcement on August 16. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said the combination of roadster body style and all-electric powertrain is “one that appeals to even the most diehard”. The level of interest has led Polestar to open the reservation books for regular versions of the Polestar 6 later this year. This version will arrive after the first series of 500 LA Concept models.

The Polestar 6 will share its underpinnings with the Polestar 5, using the brand’s 800-volt EV architecture and bespoke aluminum platform. The twin-motor powertrain can deliver up to 884 horsepower (650 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque, which is plenty for any car. The EV could return a blistering 3.2 seconds from 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour). It could also have a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

LA Concept Edition models will arrive with the concept’s unique 21-inch wheels, sky blue exterior paint and a lightweight leather interior. The concept debuts as an autonomous drone, but we don’t expect it to survive to enter the production model.

The overwhelming press and consumer response around the O2 The concept prompted Polestar to greenlight it for production, although the CEO expressed concerns about turning the concept into a production vehicle earlier this summer. There are challenges ahead, but EV won’t arrive for four years.

The Polestar 6 will be one of many new electric vehicles to join the brand’s lineup over the next few years. The Polestar 3, an all-electric performance SUV, debuts in October. In 2023, we’ll see the Polestar 4 coupe SUV arrive, with the Polestar 5 based on the Precept concept arriving in 2024.
