LUND from Sweden, March 2, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Alfa Laval – a global leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid management – will supply Framo pumping systems for foundations of Scotland the largest offshore wind farm project. This is the second ordering of pumping systems in this application and marks a milestone as it applies the company’s vast experience of the offshore industry to renewable energy applications.
The order from Saipem, a world leader in engineering, drilling and construction in the energy and infrastructure sectors, includes Alfa Laval Framo pumping systems. They will be used in a so-called suction cup technology in the Seagreen installation, Scotland the largest offshore wind farm. When finalized, it will include 114 turbines producing 1,075 MW to supply 1.3 million homes with low-carbon energy. The suction (vacuum) technology of Framo pumping systems will securely secure and anchor wind turbine platforms to the seabed. This technology has been used to secure offshore oil platforms since the 1990s.
“This second order for our Framo pumping systems used in wind farm suction bucket foundations is an important milestone for us as it strengthens our position in this application and takes our proven and long-validated oil rig technology. offshore to renewable applications ”, states Sameer kalra, President of the maritime division. “Our knowledge and experience in providing innovative and reliable products to the offshore industry is now also making a difference in the field of renewable energy, to the benefit of our customers and the environment.
Did you know that … Alfa Laval Framo technology, used in the foundation installation of the wind turbines, works the same as pumping water out of the buckets which then creates a suction / vacuum pressing the “ buckets ” into the seabed ?
