Williams finished 10th in last year’s world championship, scoring just eight points, 27 behind nearest rivals AlphaTauri.

Albon stressed that he and new recruit Logan Sargeant will need to work closely together in order to help develop the new FW45, which will be rocked next week.

However, he conceded it won’t be easy as the team have to take such big steps from last year.

“Obviously Logan is coming in with new experience or let’s just say, less experience than someone like me,” Albon said.

“But it’s kind of just trying to keep it real. Many of them are just trying to work together. We have a long way to go, realistically.

“We’ve been driving the simulator for a month now, we’re making progress. The main thing is that the feedback is the same, we have similar areas where we want the car to improve.

“And as we’ve said before, it’s a real team effort here to get the car out there. We have to be open and honest with where we are and see how it plays out in Bahrain.”

Albon doesn’t want to make any predictions on the team’s potential form in 2023.

“It’s hard to say,” he said. “I would say we are definitely in a better position ourselves than we were at the end of last year. But I don’t know how that will translate on the circuit, I don’t know how much everything the world will take a step.” Only time will tell.

“When you’re driving on a simulator there are a lot of different things that can be misled, the correlation and so on, you never really know. So right now we’re in a better place. But there It’s hard to really say where we are.”

Expanding on the key areas that needed to be addressed this year, he added: “There were obvious weaknesses in the car. It’s not just me, too Nicky [Latifi] last year Logan also drove the car last year. There were some pretty obvious weaknesses in the car.

“I can say that low-speed front lockout was a big problem for us last year, and we’re trying to get around that and figure out why it was so difficult.

“So in areas like that, there’s a common goal to improve the car and those areas, it’s not just me. The goals are pretty clear.

“Logan, even last year he had similar feedback, he knows the problems of the car, it’s not totally new to him, the feeling of the car. He gets to where the car needs to be faster. So everyone is involved in development and trying to fix whatever weaknesses we had.
