As we prepare for this year’s Oscars, here’s a look at some fun acceptance speeches.
Oscar season is upon us as the 93rd Academy Awards take place on April 25. The Oscars are known to honor the best in cinema and it is certainly a huge honor for the actors to take home the magnificent trophy. Over the years, we’ve seen some of the best acceptance speeches when it comes to awarding. While some celebrities make them personal and even make our eyes wet, some actors deliver powerful speeches that demand your attention.
Although, what an event without a few awkward and funny moments. We really love that actors show off their sense of humor in interviews and other interactions, but it’s even better when it’s during an awards speech. From Olivia Colman to Sandra Bullock, some celebs made sure to make us laugh with their speeches, and as we prepare for the 93rd Academy Awards, here’s a funny flashback.
Olivia Colman or should we say the Queen, won the Best Actress award at the Oscars in 2019. Visibly shocked, Colman began her speech by saying, “Ooh, this is really quite stressful!” Giving a shout out to the other nominees, the favorite actress also offered a playful apology to Glenn Close, saying, “That’s not how I wanted it to be.”

Brad Pitt won the award for Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time In Hollywood and continued his string of funny acceptance speeches from the SAG Awards to the Golden Globes to the Oscars. The actor began his Oscar speech mocking the impeachment trial by saying, “They told me I only had 45 seconds here … 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton. this week.
Sandra Bullock, who won Best Actress for her stellar performance on The Blind Side in 2010, left everyone in the splits when she said to the crowd: “Did I really win? that or did I just wear you out? ” by winning his award. It was her first Oscar win and we love how she landed it with a funny comment.
Julia Roberts landed an Oscar for her role in Erin Brockovich and considering it was her first Oscar, the actress wanted to make sure she took her time to say thank you and more. The actress during her speech looked at the conductor, who politely urges the award winners to step down from the stage to cut off their long speeches, and said, “Stick man, I see you!” and burst into a big laugh.
Meryl Streep, who made a record for Oscar nominations, received The Iron Lady award in 2012. Streep hilariously laughed at her Oscar winning story and said, “When they called my name , I felt like I could hear half of America say, “Oh no. Come on… Her, again? ”Although she later joked humorously“ But, whatever, ”leaving everyone in the ditch.
As we watch these fun speeches, we can’t wait to see what this year’s Oscars has in store for us.
