Indeed, golfer and longtime Sheffield United fan Matt Fitzpatrick recently played a match with the Welsh legend and the club were hoping he could say a good word and convince him to reverse his decision to retire. .

Blades fans hope Fitzpatrick told Bale to join
The duo are both taking part in the Pro-Am in California which takes place this weekend – and talkSPORT 2 will have full coverage of the exciting event.
Each year a number of celebrities make up the amateur field and the former Tottenham and Real Bale star will start and has been paired with American Joseph Bramlett.
And Fitzpatrick played nine holes with him on Wednesday in their build-up, with the world No.10 praising the footballer’s golfing talent.
“Getting ready for Pro_am at Pebble Beach,” Sheffield-born Fitzpatrick wrote alongside a photo he posted with the former footballer. “It’s great to play with you today, Gareth Bale.”
And the Premier League promotion chasing squad couldn’t resist asking their famous fan if he had put a good word on Bramall Lane.
The Blades currently sit in second place for promotion in the Championship, 12 points clear of third place Middlesbrough, and they could do with a striker like Bale to help them reclaim their Premier League status.

But while Fitzpatrick revealed he spoke to Bale about football, he didn’t say he hinted he was playing for his boyhood club.
“It was really cool,” Fitzpatrick said of golfing with Bale. “It’s the first time I’ve met him officially. So it was obviously good to see him. Really, really appreciated.
“Asking him about football and he asks about golf and all that. We had a really enjoyable first nine and there aren’t many better places to do that than here.
During Bale’s time with Real Madrid, he posed with a banner that read ‘Wales’. Golf. Madrid. In that order’, and now he has the opportunity to show his talent.
