Riding on the remarkable success of his recent success Paggled, acclaimed filmmaker Guneet Monga receives the honor of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres), the second highest French civil distinction.
Guneet Monga is a BAFTA nominated Indian film producer and one of the first Indian producers to be inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She is the founder of Sikhya Entertainment which has been leading the promotion of content-driven cinema with films like The lunch box, Masaan, what will people say, Soorarai Pottaru, Haramkhor, hawkers and an Oscar-winning short documentary – Period, end of sentence to name a few. Guneet Monga is one of the most renowned filmmakers not only in India but also around the world, symbolizing the victory of content with her projects.
In a collaborative effort to uplift Indian female content creators across the globe, Guneet Monga co-founded the film collective Indian Women Rising which helped release the critically acclaimed Oscar short “ Bittu ”.
By honoring the varied achievements of the young filmmaker, crossing geographic boundaries with content that resonates with audiences beyond demographic boundaries, the French Consulate has decided to offer the title to Guneet Monga.
Guneet Monga would be congratulated at a ceremony in Delhi on April 13, 2021 by the French Ambassador to India, on behalf of the French authorities.
Celebrating the diversity of Guneet Monga’s works, the prestigious distinction is a mark of appreciation for his invaluable contribution to world cinema.
Previously, Indian celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Nandita Das, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Anurag Kashyap, Kalki Koechlin, among others, were congratulated by this honor, as well as international biggies like Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Willis, among others.
