AFL 2022: Brendan Fevola opens up about his addiction to Call of Duty

Brendan Fevola opens up about his extreme video game addiction and reveals the shocking number of hours he spent playing Call of Duty

Soccer player-turned-radio host Brendan Fevola confronted his addiction to video games live on Thursday.

The father-of-four, 41, has been told by his Fox FM co-host Fifi Box that he’s spent more than 115 days playing first-person shooter Call of Duty in the past 12 last months.

After monitoring his PlayStation activity, Fifi revealed that he has been playing for 2,772 hours – an average of seven hours and 36 minutes per day – since November 2021.

“In days, that’s 115 days spent sitting at your desk playing COD. It’s 3.78 months. That’s a third of the year you’ve been playing COD,” she explained.

Brendan, Official Call of Duty Ambassador, replied, “Is this an intervention or a celebration?”

He then defended himself by saying that playing video games “is like people watching television, it’s the same thing”.

His other co-host Nick Cody then pointed out that Brendan also watches TV in addition to playing games.

Brendan’s partner Alex then texted the show to say, “This is so disgusting…literally every minute you have you’re on this game.

“Also add to these stats 5,000 bottles of wine.”

His problem seems to have gotten worse over the past 18 months.

In April 2021, Brendan received “very disturbing stats” which showed he had spent 557 hours playing the war game between October 2020 and April 2021.

“Can I put that in perspective because a lot of your life goes to COD right now, a lot of precious time,” Fifi said at the time.

“You spend a lot of your life – and it’s not a dress rehearsal, you have a chance to live and you spend a lot of it playing a video game.

‘Point one percent of the games you win, so 0.1% of all that time and energy you’re actually doing something good. Some life choices you might want to think about.

Brendan became addicted to the game after watching his brother play it.

“At first, I didn’t know what I was doing. I was running around getting shot and I had no idea what was going on,’ he previously said.

He sadly sold his Coleman Medal to feed his uncontrollable gambling habit.

His problem has put a strain on his relationship with Alex, but he is now in a better place after being ‘rescued’ by former Brisbane Lions manager Michael Voss.
