The weather forecast says things are going to be soft when the big field kicks off around the Grande Course over 1m4f.
This could be ideal conditions for some and ultimately rule out travel to France for others, which helps narrow the field to select a few fancies at this early stage.

The four-year-old colt would be on the list of contenders to win this good but ultimately the rain forecast could be decisive for the horse Godolphin.
Appleby, Adayar’s coach, told the Racing Post: “He worked well this morning and I couldn’t be happier with him.
“We will leave it in [the Arc] Monday and we will be more attentive to the weather than anything else.
“If it gets soft at this time of year then it’s really soft which we wouldn’t want. If it’s good to soft we’ll have someone there walking the course so that we knew each other this time.

The German horse won at huge odds last year at 72/1, by just under a length at Tarnawa.
The now five-year-old has won just once since in four legs but finished just a header behind Mendocino last time out in Group 1 at Baden Baden and could be well backed by bettors to win a second time here.
Only a few horses have won two Arcs in a row, but in particular two have come in recent years: Enable in 2017 and 2018 and Treve in 2013 and 2014.

Sir Mark Prescott’s Alpinista, unbeaten in seven races, has only been beaten by one horse in this distance and that dates back to August 2020.
All the odds may seem overpriced for this likeable gray mare who beat Tuesday at York in August and is really thriving over this distance.
Add to that her ability on different ground, she’s clearly a great ante-post pick at this point at around 6/1.
The Parisian 16/1
At just 8-9, the aptly named three-year-old makes an interesting entrance and holds at least one chance each way.
The filly attempted this trip for the first time earlier in September and only missed by a neck in a thrilling finish at this course.
It was also on soft ground, so the ground won’t be a problem for her.
She has made good progress this season and has only been beaten three times and remains unexposed with solid Group 1 form.
She also finished a short neckline behind Nassau Stakes winner Nashwa at Chantilly and could be France’s first hope on that base.
