Grammy-winning singer ’30’ Adele had the most hits of any blockbuster album in 2021, as expected, with 839,000 album-equivalent units, according to a Billboard announcement on Sunday night.
Her big debut beats the previous mark set by Drake’s “Certifiable Lover Boy” when she lost to 613,000 in September, varie.com reports.
It is also ahead of “Red (Taylor’s Version)” by Taylor Swift, who just over a week ago made the second biggest debut of the year, with 905,000 album units, and has now moved up to third. most important of 2021.
Most of Adele’s tally came from full album sales, as was the case with Swift’s massive debut last week.
These two superstars are generally considered to be the last two that are guaranteed to sell massive amounts of physical products – CDs as well as the hottest vinyl releases.
’30’ recorded 692,000 album sales, by far the highest for any release this year.
“30” was no slouch in the streaming world either, recording 185 million on-demand streams in its first week, according to Billboard.
Although vinyl sales may surpass CD sales for many artists these days, Adele’s fans were primarily drawn to the compact disc, so Swift’s “Red (Taylor’s Version)” still holds the record. most records sold in a week.
Adele’s album sales totaled 378,000 on CDs and 108,000 on vinyl.
Digital album sales fall between these two formats, with 205,000 downloads sold. A cassette version sold exclusively in the artist’s online store sold just under 2,000 to serious finalists.
The numbers are unmistakably huge by today’s standards, although the unit number doesn’t come close to matching what Adele’s previous album, ’25’, did when it was released. six years. In the land of 2015, a very different era for physical sales and jaw-dropping album numbers, ’25’ debuted with 3.38 million copies, still an all-time record.
With Adele’s album released just a week before the Black Friday promotions which saw Adele’s shelves move to the front of Target stores, she is expected to record another big sales figure next week and a likely stronghold on the # 1 position for the remainder of 2021, with no further superstar releases currently planned.
The other Billboard top 10 debut album was “Raising the Roof”, the first joint album by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss in 14 years. He arrived at No. 7 with 40,000 album units.
As with Adele, Plant and Krauss have mature audiences who are primarily interested in owning the new record and not releasing it. Of that 40,000 figure, 38,000 were full album sales.
Of the leftovers, ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ was unsurprisingly the biggest comeback album, slipping to No. 2 with 159,000 album equivalent units in week two.
Drake’s album climbed a few spots to No. 3, Silk Sonic’s collaborative debut album dropped two spots to No. 4, Morgan Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” moved up a notch to No. Summer Walker’s No. 5 and “Still Over It” dropped a few spots to No. 6 in its third week.
Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour” returned to the top 10 at No. 8. landing at No.9.
The Weeknd’s biggest hit collection, ‘The Highlights’, which had been released digitally only since almost the start of the year, but which saw a big rebound after its release on vinyl.
Billboard said that 91% of Weeknd’s hit sales were this week in LP format.
