Adam Mckay has built an original series on Parasite which is not the remake or the sequel to the film but a thematic representation of the film universe.
Parasite won the Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards with honors for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature. Author Bong Joon Ho has been acclaimed for his film around the world and Parasite has become the second name in the Korean film industry for the time being. But as it seems, Parasite’s season and what it stood for in society isn’t over yet. With Anchorman director Adam Mckay taking over from Bong Joon Ho, he builds a series based on the themes that the film represented in its narrative.
Adam Mckay’s film is based on Parasite but it is not a remake or a direct sequel of the prestigious project. Adam has built his own narrative around the portrayal of society in the film. Representation varies from rich to poor, upper class to lower class, and interpersonal relationships between people of all classes. Adam uses the theme to weave his own longer narrative as he creates an entire series from the idea.
Adam and Bong are both carrying out their upcoming projects for a big OTT giant. Bong’s next project has not been officially announced, although the streaming giant has presented some previews of Adam’s upcoming project called “ Don’t Look Up. ” Don’t Look Up is a celebrity affair about two astronomers who travel the world to spread the word that the world is ending, in a comedic way. The prestigious project stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the main cast of the film. The supporting cast includes Ariana Grande, Timothee Chalamet, Chris Evans, Himesh Patel, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Parry, Jonah Hill, Tyler Perry and Meryl Streep to name a few.
