Actress Claudia Karvan reveals the secret to a good sex scene – and explains the vile culture of ‘muff cups’ on 1980s film and TV sets
Claudia Karvan has revealed how the culture on film and TV sets has changed dramatically since she was a teenage actress in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Love My Way star, who began her screen career aged 11 in the 1983 film Molly, says when she was a young star in the industry, there was less emphasis actors doing sex scenes and female performers in general.
‘It has changed a lot. Having intimacy coordinators is a fabulous thing,’ she told the Sydney Morning Herald over the weekend.
“When I was a teenager, the actors on set would play ‘Who wins the muff cup?’ The muff cup goes to the person who can squeeze the most women out of the cast and crew,'” a- she explained.
“I am happy to say that the culture has changed dramatically, [but] it is something to always be vigilant about.

Claudia went on to say that the ‘courage to be vulnerable’ is important for good sex before describing one of her ‘favorite sex scenes’ – a ‘beautiful’ moment from her latest series, Bump, starring his on-screen daughter, Oly, played by 25-year-old Nathalie Morris.
“It was about a teenage girl having sex for the first time since she had a baby and was breastfeeding. When she comes she starts breastfeeding and gets really embarrassed,’ Claudia told the publication.
The Aussie actress recently reflected on her 50th birthday.
“I can much more satisfy my creative passions. To be honest, I’ve never been one to put a lot of emphasis on numbers,’ she told Stellar Magazine.

‘[It’s] important. It’s exciting, it’s a relief to be here and it’s a change – in a really positive way,” she said.
It comes after the Bump star revealed to Daily Mail Australia last year why she would “never” stop acting.
“I don’t plan on retiring. I see myself playing when I’m 90 actually, if I’m healthy and still alive,” she said.
“It’s a privilege to have to do a job, I must say.”
Claudia, who has already held the director’s chair for two episodes of The Secret Life of Us, also shared her hopes of directing Bump in the distant future.
