AC Milan vs Newcastle Preview
Tuesday night’s match in Milan will be Newcastle’s first Champions League match since losing on penalties at home to Partizan Belgrade in the third round of the Champions League qualifiers in August 2003.
It’s been a long 20 years for Newcastle fans, having enjoyed two different spells in the Championship, but the Magpies are back in the big time, competing with Europe’s elite on the biggest stage of them all.
Newcastle’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season ensured a return to the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition, with their campaign starting in Milan against last season’s semi-finalists at the San Siro on Tuesday evening.
Eddie Howe’s side prepared for the match by ending their three-match Premier League losing streak after a difficult start to the campaign, as Callum Wilson’s penalty guided the Magpies to a 1- 0 against Brentford.
Newcastle had lost their previous three league matches against Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton in what was a difficult start to the season for the Magpies.
Saturday’s victory moved the Tyneside club up to 11th in the table, where they are now just three points off the top seven, with their next two league matches coming against newly promoted sides currently occupying two of the bottom four league positions.
AC Milan, Italian champions in 2022, had started the new campaign perfectly with three wins out of three until meeting local rival Inter in the Milan Derby on Saturday evening.
Stefano Pioli’s side sat top of the Serie A table alongside their city rivals before kick-off but were beaten 5-1 by their noisy neighbors as they tasted defeat for the first time this season.
The defeat pushed the Rossoneri to third place in the table and has seriously affected their goal difference, with main rivals Inter now leading the way for themselves at the top of Serie A with the division’s only 100% record.
Tuesday’s match will be the first time that AC Milan and Newcastle will face each other in a competitive match.
AC Milan vs Newcastle Betting Tips
AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud scored four goals in as many matches for the Rossoneri this season, with his last three goals coming from the penalty spot.
talkSPORT BET boosted former Arsenal and Chelsea striker’s chances score a penalty Tuesday until 5/1.
Goals have followed AC Milan everywhere they go this season, whether against last season’s Champions League semi-finalists or against them, so plenty of goals could be in store on Tuesday night.
The same bookmaker also increased the chances of Newcastle beat AC Milan 4-2 in a goal festival at San Siro for 75/1.
