Abby Wambach played football at Our Lady of Mercy High School before winning Olympic gold and setting the record for most goals in international matches.
Her skills made her stand out when she was young. In high school, Wambach scored 142 goals, including 34 in the senior season.
She has been named three times to the All Greater Rochester (AGR) women’s soccer team and won the player of the year award in 1995 and 1997.
You might not know that Abby is also outstanding on the basketball court and has been selected three times by the AGR Women’s Basketball Team.
Abbey, the youngest of seven children, was not the first member of the family to win the All Greater Rochester honor. Her brother Matt was the AGR Boys Soccer Choice at McWade Gee Suit High School in 1992. Abbey’s sister, Beth, was named to the AGR Girls basketball team as a Mercy student in 1986 and 1987.
