The Green Bay Packers offense has looked offbeat throughout the 2022 campaign and, more specifically, back-to-back NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. Well, the quarterback revealed this week that he’s been coping with a broken thumb on his throwing hand from week 5.
On Sunday, a report said Rodgers’ injury was an avulsion fracture of the thumb, according to NFL Network. While this type of injury usually leads to surgery, Rodgers said he hadn’t considered surgery – it apparently causes the ligament to tear where it’s attached, taking some bone with it. – the QB intends to play through this.
“I think I had the worst injuries I’ve played with,” Rodgers said when asked to throw the ball with a broken thumb. “Definitely a challenge, but the days off help. I feel better this week.
Rodgers’ injury timeline coincides with the Packers’ five-game losing streak that was just snapped against the Cowboys in Week 10. Green Bay is also coming off a loss to the Titans last Thursday where the offense n managed only 17 points. Since Week 5, Rodgers has completed 62.35 percent of his passes, is averaging 6.51 yards per attempt and has a 91.9 passer rating. He also threw for 13 touchdowns with just four interceptions. Prior to the injury, Rodgers was making 68.9% of his shots and had a 95.6 passer rating, so there is a noticeable drop in efficiency.
While Rodgers intends to play through the injury, it will be fascinating to see Green Bay’s course of action should he/she fall out of playoff contention. Behind Rodgers is 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love, who already has one start under his belt.
