Let’s start with the bigger problem: The Packers don’t actually want to trade their star quarterback. Every quote from team president Mark Murphy and general manager Brian Gutekunst over the past few days has made it clear that they have no plans to trade Rodgers. If the organization decides they are simply unwilling to negotiate a trade, the quarterback has no alternative. He cannot directly force his way to another team.
There are ways Rodgers can put more pressure on the organization to bid, but they also have consequences. The 2020 collective agreement makes it difficult for veterans to hold on as they are fined $ 40,000 per day missing without teams being able to waive those fines if the player returns.
