Albert Bichot Brut Reserve Crémant de Bourgogne
I’m tempted to call Crémant de Bourgogne the “champagne of the poor”, but I can already hear producers complaining about it. “It’s a burgundy,” they said. And they would be right, of course. But this example from Albert Bichot is a top-notch bubbly at a modest price compared to the vaunted neighbor to the north. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, aged 18 to 20 months before disgorging, it shows complexity and nuance as the flavors of ripe orchard fruit dance with notes of toasted brioche. ABV: 12%.

Juvé & Camps Reserva de la Familia Gran Reserva Cava Brut Nature 2017
Key words to note on the label: The raw nature means that no dose of sweetness is added when the wine is finished, so we have a very dry sparkling intended to showcase the fruit. Gran reserva indicates that this wine was aged on its lees for at least 30 months to develop its complexity — Juvé & Camps ages its gran reserva over 36 months. The vintage year indicates that this is not a blend of several vintages intended to showcase a house style; it is rather intended to express the vintage. There is no disgorging date – something I like to see on a label – to give us an indication of how long the wine has aged, but we have enough to know that it is. a high-end cava with a very modest price. Impeccably balanced, the wine offers scintillating berry and cassis flavors with a lush texture and vibrant acidity that will invigorate your palate with every sip. ABV: 12%.
