We’re getting ready for the season two premiere of The Mandalorian, which makes it a great time to revisit what happened at the end of the first season. The trailer makes it look like Baby Yoda and the Mandalorian will be traveling across the galaxy in the new season, so how did they end up staying together and on a mission?
Baby Yoda, aka “The Child,” has a somewhat difficult encounter with the Mandalorian early in the season. Din Djarin is apparently one of several bounty hunters sent by the client to capture the child and bring him back for nefarious purposes. Finding out that his bounty is, basically, a toddler, Djarin slowly changes his mind and ends up saving Baby Yoda and going on the run with him. Things get even more dangerous when it’s revealed that Moff Gideon, a former Imperial leader, is in fact after them, and that he doesn’t plan to stop until he captures the child, who demonstrates Force abilities such as healing and movement.
In the season one finale, Djarin and the kid meet the Armorer again, now the sole survivor of the underground Mandalorian group we’ve encountered throughout the season. When she meets the Child, she recognizes him as a Jedi, noting that, historically, Mandalorians and Jedi were often enemies. In their conversation, she reminded him that as part of the Mandalorians’ creed, he is essentially the father and guardian of the child until the child grows up or can be reunited with his own gender. .
After an intense battle to get away from Moff Gideon’s forces – one that costs the life of the IG-11 droid, who sacrifices himself to take down the stormtroopers and clear the way for Djarin and the child – they are able to escape. and reunite with their allies, Cara Dune and Greef Karga. The end of the season sees the friends go their separate ways: Cara and Greef leave to resume the bounty hunt, while the Mandalorian and the child take off elsewhere, presumably to a place where they can hide and begin searching for the remains of the people. by Baby Yoda. Whether that means more of his kind or just more Jedi in general is one of the many questions we have before the Season Two premiere on October 30!
