It seems that foldable display devices are continually facing challenges. Not only is the technology still in its infancy and quite expensive, its advancement is also hampered by adverse economic and global market conditions. Nonetheless, Samsung has shown that the foldable form factor can be a huge hit if you go big and bold with your offerings and your price tag.
The first of these has been reported to be released from a mysterious device called the Oppo Find N 5G. The post itself contains a reference to the long-forgotten Oppo N series of phones and a photo of what appears to be the Oppo N3 – a very particular device from 2014/2015 that had its main camera on a motorized swivel so that it can act as a selfie and also capture intriguing panoramas.
With that in mind, the foldable market appears to be poised for a big expansion. Oppo has reportedly been working on its first foldable phone for some time. Unfortunately, the reported launch windows were all missed one after the other in the process. Well, respected leaker Digital Chat Station just posted a handful of fascinating tweets on Weibo, which could be an exciting new development.
The second article related to the mysterious Oppo Find N 5G seems to mention both a foldable display, as well as a way to use the phone’s 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor for selfies. Certainly not inconceivable on a foldable phone. The post also includes a reference to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra which takes selfies with the main camera via a small screen on the back. Perhaps the Oppo Find N 5G will have its own display, as most sources agree that it will be an internal folder.
Another source claims that Oppo’s foldable screen phone sports a 7.8-8 inch OLED display, with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Apparently its development and production cycle is so advanced. that units are already dissipating through internal channels to stores for employee training purposes. This would mean an imminent release.
The Find brand definitely suggests some flagship features, so we won’t put it beyond Oppo. Again, we have to note that some of the company’s recent foldable device patents also include things like a pop-up camera, as well as an odd flap with an outward-facing screen and a camera bar reminiscent of the aforementioned Oppo N3. .
