Michelle Yeoh joins the cast of the Wicked movies as Madame Morrible…alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo
Michelle Yeoh has joined the star-studded cast of Wicked.
The actress, 60, will play Madame Morrible in the Jon M. Chu-directed project, which also stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Madame Morrible is the headmistress of Shiz University’s Crage Hall, originally played by actress Carole Shelley in the original Broadway musical.

In 2003, the late Carole Shelley starred as Madame Morrible in the original Broadway musical Wicked; she later reprized the role on a 2005 tour and also in a Chicago production in 2006.
Wicked will be split into two films, released a year apart, according to director Jon M. Chu, who revealed the format in April 2022.
The news was revealed in April via the director’s social media, later reposted by Ariana Grande, who is set to play Glinda in the films.

Jon revealed the reasoning for splitting the project into two films in a lengthy Instagram post.
He said trying to get him into one movie encountered cut songs or characters, which made him and his team realize he had to be in two movies.
“As we prepared for this production over the past year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to turn WICKED’s story into a single movie without causing it real damage.”
Adding, “As we tried to cut songs or cut characters, those decisions started to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us for so many years.”
