Australia’s run at the World Cup came to an end on Sunday after the Socceroos lost 2-1 to Argentina.
A few very costly errors from Aziz Behich and goalkeeper Mat Ryan were the crucial moments that put the Socceroos within two goals of the South American giants.
Graham Arnold’s men delivered an outstanding performance and were dangerous until the dying minutes of their first World Cup knockout game since 2006.
The result ends an incredible tournament for the Aussies and emotions were running high after the match.

Jackson Irvine struggled to keep his composure in a postgame interview with SBS.
“Yes, we gave it our all. Just like we have every minute of this competition. So proud of all the players and staff. Yeah, just not enough that day,” Irvine said.
“I think we did everything we could. We stood up to be compact and disciplined in our form. We were excellent defensively, we gave up very little until the end, of course. You have to try the last 15 minutes.
When the midfielder was asked about the Socceroos’ impact on Australian Rules football returning to the map, Irvine was overcome with emotion.
“It’s hard to understand everything at the moment. It’s all pretty raw,’ Irvine said holding back tears.
“But yeah, I hope we made everyone proud.”
Irvine then put his face in his hands and walked away from the interview.
