Andre Onana has been dropped from the Cameroon squad for their clash with Serbia for ‘disciplinary reasons’.
The goalkeeper started in Cameroon’s World Cup opener against Switzerland but did not feature in their matchday squad at all following a row with coach Rigobert Song.
According COPEthe fallout concerns Onana’s style of ball play, with Song keen to have a more traditional goalkeeper between the sticks.
As a result, the Inter Milan keeper was dropped for Devis Epassy, a stopper with just five caps to his name.
It’s been a tough year for the 26-year-old after being banned for a year in 2021 for a doping violation.
Onana served nine months of that sentence but has always maintained his innocence, saying he accidentally took one of his wife’s pills when he wasn’t feeling well.
Since then he has produced a number of peak performances for Italian giants Inter Milan, but this setback is only the latest in what has been a hugely frustrating 2022 for the goalkeeper.
Onana was also involved in a car accident while on international duty with Cameroon earlier this year but escaped the scene unscathed.
