After adding Android 13 media player support last month, Pocket Casts now lets you customize the actions that appear in the notification.
By default, play/pause and skip forward/backward are associated with the playback speed and the star in the lower right corner. Pocket Casts will now also allow you to choose Archive (box), Mark as Played (checkmark), and Play Next (double arrows).
You can customize from Settings > General > Media notification controls, with up to two selectable. As such, you can have only one additional action or no action at all if you want the timeline slider to be as wide as possible, which makes a noticeable difference.
It’s a nice customization to have and other apps would be wise to replicate so users can decide for themselves instead of being vexed by the defaults (see: YouTube Music).
Meanwhile, against Pocket Casts 7.27, which is currently in beta (sign up here), also adds support for per-app language preferences from Android 13. The app has also recently rolled out year-end statistics presented in the form of a story.
Other bug fixes identified in the release notes include:
- Fixed some layout issues in EpisodeFragment.
- Fixed RTL support for notes.
- Fixed small “Go to Podcast” icon in landscape.
- Added option to open player automatically on user startup[s] podcast playback.
