Christian Bale has revealed his daughter was stunned when she learned of a certain scene he filmed with Taylor Swift for her upcoming movie, amsterdam.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bale said the opportunity to sing as a character in his film with Swift on set was not only a surprise for him but also for his daughter. “[Performing with Swift] was a very pleasant surprise, and I didn’t tell anyone about it [it[ until afterwards,” he said. ” I went to my daughter and said, ‘You know who I sang with today? Taylor Swift.’ And she was like, ‘Wait, what? Why would you be doing that?'” Judging by his daughter’s reaction, a future career in music is not on the cards for Bale. Plus, the actor also recalled that he and co-star John David Washington hilariously had terrible pitch and difficulties memorizing the song lyrics.
Taylor Swift Rescues Amsterdam’s Musical Number
However, Bale and Washington’s lack of musical tact did not stop the duo from having fun with their film number. “It was a very funny scene, actually, because J.D. [Washington] and I had practiced that song a bit,” Bale explained. “David had us singing it all day, but there were times when I forgot the lyrics. So I looked at JD, he looked at me and then he forgot too. So I should tell him. And then we were going flat. Our pitch was all over the place, but we thought, “Yeah, but the feeling is good! “”
Despite enjoying the experience, director David O. Russell ultimately made the decision to blackmail Swift. Bale didn’t mind, as he was just grateful for the chance to perform with the popular singer and pointed out how awesome Russell was at bringing his vision for the film to life.
“All of a sudden David was like, ‘What if Christian and JD shut up about this one and let Taylor do it?'” the star recalled. “And it was like we drowned out an angel’s voice all day with our cacophony and our rough, terrible voices. So it’s really something when you have someone with a voice as beautiful as his. , who’s singing right next to you. Oh man, that was phenomenal. David creates so many different phenomenal events and stories and moments working with him. That’s what he’s trying to create, and he manages to do it beautifully.
Set in the 1930s, amsterdam follows a trio of friends played by Bale, Washington and Margot Robbie who unwittingly become suspects in a complex murder plot before uncovering a scandalous secret that could shake America. The film will be released in theaters on October 7.
