As an official release appears to be in the not-too-distant future, Samsung has released a third Android 13 beta that improves animations, adds support for themed icons, and more.
Rolling out to the Galaxy S22 in the US and a few other regions today, Samsung’s latest Android 13 beta carries a build number ending in ZVI9. The update weighs just over 1 GB.
What’s new? In Samsung’s official changelog, there is a list of tweaks and bug fixes.
The Gallery app gets a revamped “immersive slideshow” view for Stories, which are automatically generated by the app from photos you’ve taken. There is also a new Gallery widget for the home screen.
Another notable change is in the wallpaper settings, as you can now change the lock screen wallpaper. of the lock screen, simply by long pressing. In this regard, Samsung has also adopted Android 13 support for themed icons on third-party apps, with some Google apps, Samsung proprietary apps, and supported third-party apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, etc. Previously, Samsung only supported themed icons on its own apps.
The other thing you might notice in this update is better animations overall. Samsung’s latest Android 13 fixes animation issues such as minimal lag when returning to the home screen, as well as some animations overlapping a close folder on the home screen. In our limited testing, it feels a bit quicker and faster.
Samsung also released its Android 13 beta to the Galaxy S21 and will likely bring the update to its foldables at some point.
