Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards were filled with memorable moments. From explosive performances like the Bad Bunny concert at Yankee Stadium to Taylor Swift’s reveal of a new record coming out in two months, the show was engaging and entertaining. Surprisingly, two of the night’s most nominated stars were missing.
Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigue did not attend the awards ceremony. The two were nominated for a variety of awards and seem to have made the decision to ignore the stress of the awards show, especially since they weren’t scheduled to perform.
Eilish was nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Long Form Video and Best Pop Video, and has been quiet on social media all night. But her reasons for missing the show could be due to a busy schedule. Eilish performed in Tokyo last Friday, with her next tour date being in New Zealand on September 8. Attending the VMAs in New York would require him to take several flights in a short period of time.
In Rodrigo’s case, we don’t know why she decided to jump. She recently joined Billy Joel at his Madison Square Garden gig for a performance of “Uptown Girl.” “Literally because you played his uptown girl… such an honor to perform with one of the best songwriters alive last night. Billy Joel 4 life!!!!” she wrote on her Instagram Rodrigo was nominated for Video of the Year, Best Pop Song, Best Long Form and Best Editing at this year’s VMAs.
