WATCH: Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis give moving speeches
The 2023 Oscars were full of emotional acceptance speeches, surprising turns, and standout films. Here are some of the best moments from Hollywood’s biggest night of the year.
A moment of loop
Sunday’s ceremony was an opportunity for Ke Huy Quan to reunite with his old friend Harrison Ford.
Quan, who starred alongside Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as a child, won best supporting actor for Anything, Anything, Anything After a two-decade hiatus.
Lady Gaga removes makeup
Lady Gaga ensured her voice took center stage as she performed without makeup and wearing jeans and a plain t-shirt.
The look of her performance of Hold My Hand, nominated for Best Original Song, was a stark contrast to her previous not-so-red carpet appearance, in a black Versace gown with a sheer corset bodice.
While on the mat, she received praise from fans on social media for rushing to the aid of a photographer who appeared to have fallen while walking past her.
Hugh Grant talks about the benefits of moisturizer
British actor Hugh Grant’s comedy was a hit with crowds at the Dolby Theatre.
While presenting the award for Best Production Design with his Four Weddings and a Funeral co-star Andie MacDowell, Grant joked, “The purpose of this is twofold.
“The first is to emphasize the vital importance of a good moisturizer. Andie has used one every day of her life, not me.”
Grant then waved at MacDowell, saying, “Still gorgeous.” He then gestured to himself: “Basically a scrotum.”

Earlier in the evening, Grant seemed less enthusiastic as he spoke to model Ashely Graham about his appearance in the film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Asked about his experience filming the sequel, he replied, “Well, I’m barely into it. I’m into it for three seconds.”
Probed further to find out if he enjoyed filming it, he replied: “Almost”.
John Travolta’s tearful tribute to the Grease co-star
During the presentation of the In Memoriam tribute to Hollywood personalities who died last year, John Travolta paid a moving tribute to his Grease co-star Olivia Newton John.
“We remain desperately devoted to you,” Travolta said in tears, referencing Newton John’s iconic song.

Jimmy Kimmel addresses The Slap
The late-night talk show host returned to host his third Academy Awards. He quickly addressed the controversy at last year’s Oscars, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock onstage.
“We want you to have fun, to feel safe, and most importantly, we want me to feel safe, so we have strict policies in place,” Kimmel said.
“If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any time during the show, you will receive the Oscar for Best Actor and be allowed to give a 19-minute speech.
“But seriously, the Academy has a crisis team in place,” he added. “If something unpredictable or violent happens during the show, just sit still and do absolutely nothing. Maybe even hug the abuser.”
… and brings a donkey on stage
In an ode to the Irish film Banshees of Inisherin, Kimmel then brought a donkey onto the stage.
“She’s a certified emotional support donkey. At least that’s what we told the airline to get her on the plane from Ireland. If you’re feeling sad or need a cuddle …Let’s take that Spirit Airlines flight back now.”

Cocaine Bear makes an appearance
Elizabeth Banks presented the prize for best visual effects – accompanied by a very hyperactive grizzly bear.
“I recently made the movie Cocaine Bear and without visual effects this is what the bear would look like,” Banks joked.

Irish Goodbye star celebrates birthday
The makers of best short, An Irish Goodbye, used their acceptance speech to sing a rendition of Happy Birthday to one of the film’s stars, James Martin.
After saying thank you, director Ross White said, “This award is actually the second most important thing today because it’s this man’s birthday,” referring to Martin.
“We would like to use the rest of our time here to sing for James,” he added, before leading the audience in song as Martin held up the Oscars.
