LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The natural state is about to get cleaner.

United States The Interior Ministry announced On August 25, Arkansas will receive $5 million to contain 227 orphan oil and gas wells in the state. The funding is part of a $560 million package distributed nationwide.

The ministry says methane gas leaks from these well sites have a significant environmental impact. The money will be provided through the bipartisan infrastructure plan passed in November 2021.

Currently, 129,000 wells across the country are listed as orphaned, but this number is expected to increase as the same funding provides research to determine orphaned wells.
