During HDC 2022, Huawei launched various HarmonyOS technologies and the company also talked about how it can run different devices compared to Apple.
Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Bussiness Group, said that Huawei uses one operating system for all of its devices. These include various devices such as:
- smartphones
- Tablets
- Connected watches
- Smart TVs
- smart cars
- smart things
In June 2021, Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS for smartphones and other consumer devices with the slogan “One as all, All as one”. Subsequently, Huawei began seeding it for smartphones using OTA software updates.
Apple:
Apple started its journey to mainstream devices only with iOS, later the biggest tech maker distributed the operating system based on the platform.
These are:
- iOS for iPhone
- iPadOS for iPad
- watchOS for smartwatches
- tvOS for smart TVs
- macOS for Apple computers
Yes, these have their own specialties but they also share developer comfort in terms of compatibility.
Compatibility and User Interface:
Compared to Apple, Huawei focused from the beginning on the main compatibility features of the HarmonyOS operating system. And over the past two years, Huawei has made major progress in this area.
HarmonyOS 2 has been used on smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, smart TVs, smart appliances, smart cars, IoT devices, and more. This operating system can run up to 128 KB of memory-capable devices, which Apple cannot do due to its closed-source policy.
Additionally, HarmonyOS 3 has bolstered the core elements of its predecessor with a number of new features and optimizations to improve the user experience.
Huawei has designed this smart OS to work on various devices, allowing it to increase installation all over the world. At Huawei Developer Conference 2022, Huawei Consumers Business Group CEO Yu Chengdong announced that the HarmonyOS operating system surpasses 320 million installs.
The growth of the operating system was recorded by more than 113% compared to last year. The flip side shows that HarmonyOS Connect devices have grown by over 250 million and there is a 212% year-on-year growth.
