PITTSBURGH (AP) – A car crashed into a building housing a plasma center in Pittsburgh, killing three people and injuring two others, authorities said.
Pittsburgh Director of Public Safety Wendell Hissrich confirmed the deaths on Saturday and also said two other people were injured, one of them seriously. A firefighter and an ambulance driver were also treated, he said.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the Biomat USA Plasma Building crash in the Manchester district around 11:30 am on Saturday. Firefighters extinguished a fire that followed the crash, Hissrich said.
Hissrich said one of those killed was still inside the vehicle in the building; he said he could not say whether the other two people killed were in the vehicle and got out of it or were in the building and were beaten. It is not known how many people were inside at the time of the crash, he said.
Investigators were documenting the scene inside the car and workers were trying to stabilize the badly damaged building so that the vehicle and the victim could be removed, Hissrich said. The police interview donors and workers inside, and counseling is provided to them.
Hissrich said authorities were reviewing the video, talking to witnesses and trying to get information about the driver.
