If you’ve been patiently waiting for the NFL schedule to be released, you won’t have to wait much longer and that’s because it looks like the release date is now set. According to the Sports Affairs JournalNFL teams were informed in a memo that the 2024 schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 15, making it the last release of the schedule since at least 1990.

If you want complete coverage of the calendar release, here’s everything you need to know:

Date: Wednesday May 15 | Time: 8 p.m. ET
TV:
NFL Network
CBS Sports Headquarters: We will have full coverage on CBS Sports HQ starting at 8 p.m. ET on May 15.

The 2024 version will mark the fifth year in a row that the calendar has been released in May, so you can probably just plan for that to happen for the rest of time. Before 2020, the NFL schedule was typically released in April, but the date was moved to May during the pandemic. The NFL liked the May release date so much that they decided to stick with it.

The later release date means the league doesn’t have to finalize the schedule before the draft, allowing the NFL to potentially put some of the league’s new stars in prime time. For example, the Bears have probably become a much more attractive team to schedulers now that they have Caleb Williams.

It’s unclear why the NFL pushed back the release of the schedule so far this year and the league provided no explanation in the memo it sent to teams.

While we won’t know the exact schedule until May 15, we already know a few things about this year’s slate of games and you can check them out below:

  • Opening Thursday evening in Kansas City. The defending Super Bowl champion hosts the season opener every year, meaning that, barring anything unforeseen, the Chiefs will be the home team in Thursday night’s opener. Their home schedule includes the Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Saints and Buccaneers, so the NFL will have plenty of juicy matchups to choose from, including a possible title rematch. the AFC with Baltimore. The Bengals and Texans would also be attractive options. The NFL typically tries to avoid setting up divisional games in the opener, so the Chargers, Raiders and Broncos likely won’t play in Kansas City in the first week.
  • The NFL is set to play in Brazil for the first time. Not only are their four European games scheduled this year, but the NFL has scheduled a game in Brazil for the first time. The Eagles will be the home team for a Week 1 game against the Packers that will air exclusively on Peacock on Friday, September 6.
  • The international series will also include matches in London and Munich. The NFL will play four games in Europe this year, including three in London and one in Germany. For the England slate of games, the Bears, Vikings and Jaguars will each serve as the home team in a game. As for the game in Germany, the Panthers will be the home team for the second NFL regular season game in Munich.
  • A Christmas double bill that will make history. For only the third time in 75 years, the NFL will play on a Wednesday this year and that will happen because Christmas falls on a Wednesday in 2024. The NFL will play on a Wednesday. you will give us a doubleheader December 25th.
  • All round-trip opponents of the 32 teams. While we don’t yet know the time and dates of this year’s games, we do know who each team will be playing and you can view the home and away opponents for all 32 teams by clicking here.
