Earlier this month, the next-generation BMW 5 Series finally ditched its interim headlights and began testing on public roads with production clusters hidden under camouflage. It is still very difficult to see the complete shape of the lights and their internal graphics, but one can finally imagine what the 2024 5er could look like. Or rather our friends and colleagues from Kolesa.ru help us out with their new unofficial preview.
The renders attached to this article paint what we think is an accurate picture of the next-gen 5 Series. From what we can see, the headlights will be inspired by the facelifted 3 Series, but in a mix with Series 2 Coupe keys. We know that the kidney grilles will be slightly larger than before, but not even close to the size and shape of the M3/M4 duo grilles and others.
We are happy to report that the rear will have a very different design than the new 7 and i7 series with their somewhat controversial headlight design. The new 5 Series will keep things more traditional, giving the middle child of BMW’s non-SUV range a very strong and stylish rear fascia.
Hearing the news that BMW will be keeping the 5 Series Touring alive is definitely a breath of fresh air in this crazy SUV world. There is also a crazy rumor that the Bavarian company is planning to bring back the M5 Touring as a competitor to the Audi RS6 and Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate. Although this is just speculation, for now it is based on a reliable source, which gives us hope that it will come true.
BMW will launch the new 5 with a family of Euro 7-compliant petrol and diesel engines, all featuring some sort of electrification. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also expected to be part of the engine lineup and there are rumors of an M Performance PHEV with a system output of 565 horsepower. The top-of-the-line M5 is also believed to be a hybrid with a V8 combustion mill and an electric motor.
