The original EV with ID badge will be reworked in 2023, as anticipated in official design sketches released today by Volkswagen. The Wolfsburg-based automaker goes so far as to say that this ID.3 will be a second-generation model, but the teasers make it clear that it will be more of a facelift. From what we can tell, the front bumper has a sportier look while the taillight LED graphics have been updated.
The biggest changes will come inside the cabin where VW promises to step up its game in terms of quality. In addition, the size of the touch screen will increase from the current 10-inch diagonal to a 12-inch screen while the center console will be redesigned to accommodate a pair of cupholders. At the rear, a removable compartment floor will enhance the practicality of the EV.

One of the boot problems of the VW ID.3 (and the Golf), the software, will be changed yet again. Live updates will follow to further improve functionality. VW is touting improved infotainment performance and improved assistance systems, in particular Travel Assist with Swarm Data and Park Assist Plus with memory function. With the official preview released today, VW claims to have “listened to its customers and implemented many of their suggestions”.
In production at the factories in Zwickau and Dresden in Germany, the ID.3 will also be manufactured at our premises in Wolfsburg from 2023. The decision was made in response to strong customer demand for the compact electric tailgate. You can already order the facelifted model in Germany in the preconfigured flavors Life, Business, Style, Max and Tour, starting at €43,995.
Due to the large order book, deliveries of the updated ID.3 will only start in the fourth quarter of next year. There’s no word yet on the GTX-badged version, but VW has confirmed that a performance model will follow.
