2023 Nissan Z meets Ford Mustang GT and Dodge Challenger in a drag race

0

The new Nissan Z entered the US sports car market in very turbulent times. There are many new and very capable performance models and some of the icons of the segment will soon be retired and replaced by the next generations. But before that happens, the newcomer from Japan has a chance to prove himself against the old dogs.

Accelerator chamber has put together an impressive lineup for one of its latest videos to see which performance model is best for drag racing. Against the Nissan Z are the Ford Mustang GT and the Dodge Challenger Scat Pack. Both are going to be replaced by new models relatively soon, but more on that later. First, let’s look at the numbers here.

The Nissan Z uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that generates 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 Newton-meters) of torque. Facing it, the Ford Mustang GT unleashes the full potential of its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 developing 450 hp (336 kW) and 410 lb-ft (556 Nm). Finally, the Dodge Challenger brings an even bigger 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp (362 kW) and 475 lb-ft (644 Nm) of twist.

The price comparison is also interesting. In the US, the Mustang GT is $39,440 and the Challenger Scat Pack 392 is $46,650. Nissan’s new Z is the most expensive of the trio with a price tag of $51,015. All cars have manual transmissions and send power exclusively to the rear wheels.

You would probably be surprised by the winner here. It will be very interesting to see a rematch between these three cars when the new Mustang and next-gen Challenger hit the market. The former will debut next month, but we haven’t yet learned when the new Challenger will arrive.
