Mercedes held a presentation this week on how it plans to channel more than 75% of its investment into C-class vehicles and above while simplifying the entry-level car lineup. Although some small models will be removed, the total number of available vehicles bearing the three-pointed star will not decrease. Indeed, the EQ family of all-electric models is expanding, with an EQE SUV coming later this year.
A teaser image depicting the vehicle’s side profile appeared in the background as Gorden Wagener spoke about the EQ sub-brand. The Mercedes design boss called it a little brother to the larger EQS SUV unveiled just over a month ago. Gorden Wagener pointed out that it will be noticeably different from the GLE, going so far as to say that it will be much sportier and sleeker while having a more aerodynamic body.

The cat is pretty much out of the bag in terms of exterior design as a prototype was spotted in early May without any camouflage. As for why it was orange, this EQE SUV probably had a death date as we thought it was later used in a crash test. Judging by these peekaboo spy photos, it’ll look less bulbous than the EQS SUV, which is to be expected given its smaller footprint. After seeing the EQE sedan, we don’t really need a crystal ball to see the future of Mercedes’ next electric SUV.
With the boys and girls working at Affalterbach keen on everything AMG, you can rest assured there will be a high-performance version. In fact, a spicy prototype has already been filmed during testing. Powertrain specs are expected to mirror those of the sedan, which offers 469 hp (350 kW) and 858 Nm (633 lb-ft) in “43” form and 617 hp (460 kW) and 950 Nm (700 lb-ft) ft ) if you upgrade to the “53” model.
Just like the larger EQS SUV, the next electric vehicle will be assembled by Mercedes in the United States at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama. The world premiere is expected to take place in the coming months, with sales likely to begin before the end of 2022. The hottest AMGs are expected to follow next year.
