2023 Kia Borrego launched in Korea as an overhauled Mohave Body-On-Frame SUV

It might not look like it, but the Mohave is technically one of the oldest Kia models on sale today. Its roots go back to 2008, when it was launched in South Korea with an equivalent Borrego version for North America. Due to poor sales, it was not pulled from the United States until a few years later, but the mid-size SUV persevered in other markets, including the domestic market.

A subtle facelift was launched in 2016 before Kia revamped the design inside and out in 2019 as an extension of the Masterpiece concept. Fast forward to January 2022, the rugged SUV receives a few updates at home where it switches to the latest company logo. The reason we raise this question is that the Mohave had used a distinctive badge, shared with the full-size Opirus sedan that was discontinued a decade ago. The same happened with the Stinger 2022 as it also had its own badge in Korea before the recent update.

2023 Kia Mohave

Slightly smaller than the Telluride but bigger than the Sorento, the Mohave is Kia’s toughest SUV on sale today because it sits on a frame-mounted body platform. For the 2023 model year, engineers made changes to the chassis and suspension to give the vehicle a more comfortable ride by reducing the vibrations felt inside.

Also, in terms of comfort, the cabin should be significantly quieter now that the Mohave has double-glazed windows. Other updates include adopting multi-collision braking as standard equipment to automatically apply the brakes to avoid a secondary collision after the initial impact. Additional tweaks include new glossy black accents visible on the exterior, such as the grille surround.

Due to local regulations that came into effect this year, the Mohave 2023 equipped with a diesel engine now has a new device to reduce emissions.

As for pricing, the entry-level model costs the equivalent of around $ 41,100 at current exchange rates and comes in at nearly $ 49,000 for the top-of-the-line Mohave Gravity.
