FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Horizon League announced the 2022-23 men’s basketball schedule on Tuesday (Aug. 16). The Mastodons will look to defend their regular-season title from last year with a 20-game league slate, playing every team in the league twice. Jarred Godfreyon course to become the program’s all-time top scorer, will lead an experienced Mastodon side in 2022-23.
The first two Horizon League games of the season are scheduled for Dec. 1 against Detroit Mercy and Dec. 3 against Oakland. Both will be in Fort Wayne. Antoine Davis returns for Detroit Mercy in 2022-23. The fifth-year guard is 266 points away from becoming the 11e player in NCAA history to score 3,000 points. Meanwhile, Oakland is one of the Mastodons’ oldest rivals.
Road trips to Robert Morris (December 29) and Youngstown State (December 31) follow after Christmas. The ‘Dons are then back at home against Green Bay (January 5) and Milwaukee (January 7). The Mastodons swept all eight games against those teams last season.
A battle with state rival IUPUI is scheduled for Jan. 12 in Circle City. Next, new rival Cleveland State comes to Summit City for a tilt Monday night Jan. 16. He begins a series of matches against the other three semi-finalists from last year’s league. The ‘Dons go to Wright State (January 19) and Northern Kentucky (January 21).
IUPUI travels to Fort Wayne on Jan. 25 with a road game for the ‘Dons at Cleveland State two days later.
On February 2 and 4, the ‘Dons go to Detroit Mercy and Oakland, respectively.
The ‘Dons then close the regular season with four of six at home. Youngstown State (February 10) and Robert Morris (February 12) come to town first. Northern Kentucky (February 17) and Wright State (February 19) follow. The ‘Dons end with a road trip through American Dairyland. The first is Milwaukee (February 23), followed by Green Bay (February 25).
