The Tokyo 2021 Olympics come to a close this weekend, and the men’s basketball tournament will end with some familiar faces. The United States will face France in the gold medal match on Saturday, August 7 at 11:30 a.m. Tokyo time. It is 10:30 p.m. ET Friday night in the United States.
The game will be broadcast live on NBC and will air again on NBC Sports Network on Friday afternoon at 6 p.m. on replay. How the USA got here: It wasn’t good for the United States, but the team is back competing for gold. After struggling against an exhibition list, the United States lost a first-half lead in their first Olympic group game, losing 83-76 to this particular French team. They rebounded with a 120-66 victory over Iran and a 119-84 victory over the Czech Republic. In the knockout stage, the United States beat Spain 95-81 in the quarter-finals and Australia 97-78 in the semi-finals. Kevin Durant led the way in the United States with 19 points per game and is second behind Bam Adebayo (5.6) with 5.2 rebounds per game.
How France got here: France rode in a group. After upsetting the United States in the opener, the French beat the Czech Republic 97-77 and Iran 79-62 to make their way to the knockout stage. They beat Italy 84-75 in the quarter-final and Slovenia 90-89 in the semi-final.
